What Causes Urinary Infection

What causes urinary infection?

Most urinary tract infections are caused by the bacteria found in a person’s stool moving into the urinary tract and then sometimes into the urethra.  The bacteria can then move up the urethra into the bladder.  While urinary tract infections in women are more common, male urinary tract infections can occur too.  Women are more prone because bacteria can enter the vagina easier than the urethra of the penis.

Sometimes sex causes urinary infection.  If bacteria enters the body during sexual intercourse, a urinary tract infection can start.  Again, because the vagina area is more susceptible to bacteria, women are more likely to get a UTI through sex.

Waiting too long to urinate causes urinary infection.  As the bladder muscles strain due to the increased volume of urine, sometimes that bladder can stretch too much.  This can cause the bladder not to empty fully when you urinate and this urine can cause a urinary tract infection.

This Guide provides lots of information on urinary tract infection treatment, but if you would like to read more about UTIs and discover great home remedies, I highly recommend that you read UTI Be Gone.
